Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday criticised the Congress Working Committee’s decision to sing only two stanzas of Vande Mataram, accusing the party of pursuing an ‘extreme appeasement’ policy under Rahul Gandhi.
Shah said the Congress had committed a historical blunder in 1937 by dividing Vande Mataram into two parts for Muslim appeasement, which he claimed laid the foundation for Partition.
The Minister said the division strengthened the two-nation theory, ultimately leading to the Partition of the country and the creation of Pakistan. He described the CWC’s latest decision as anti-national and an open violation of the law enacted by Parliament.
Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had corrected the 1937 decision 80 years after independence. He added that the BJP condemned the Congress decision and would oppose it before the public and in Legislative Houses.
Questioning the Congress’ patriotism, Shah said the CWC decision demonstrated what he described as the party’s continued politics of appeasement.
“It is deeply surprising that, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party is once again vigorously pursuing the politics of appeasement in the country,” he said.
Shah urged people to remember the consequences of the earlier decision to divide Vande Mataram and called for opposition to the Congress’ latest move. His remarks came a day after the CWC passed a resolution deciding to sing only two stanzas of Vande Mataram instead of the full song.
