In a prompt and extensive deployment, over 300 personnel from the Uttarakhand Police, including top-ranking officers and specialised units, have been mobilised to lead rescue and relief efforts in the disaster-affected Dharali area of Uttarkashi district.
The action follows a worsening natural disaster that has severely impacted lives and infrastructure in this isolated Himalayan region.
A statement from the Director General of Police’s Headquarters in Uttarakhand confirmed the deployment comprises:
- Two Inspectors General of Police,
- Three Superintendents of Police,
- One Commandant, and
- 11 Deputy Superintendents of Police
Senior IPS officers spearheading the mission include IG SDRF Arun Mohan Joshi, IG Garhwal Rangi Rajiv Swaroop, Pradeep Kumar Rai, Amit Srivastava, Surjeet Singh Panwar, and Shweta Choubey. They are responsible for on-ground coordination and overall execution.
Enhancing the response, the Special Disaster Relief Team (E Company) of the 40th battalion PAC, led by IRB II’s Shweta Choubey, has been deployed alongside 140 personnel from C Company of IRB II, Dehradun.
Further reinforcement has come from 160 officers and constables drawn from Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, and Tehri districts, all equipped with critical disaster-response tools.
“This is an effort to ensure that every affected person gets quick help,” the DGP’s office stated. “The police force has been instructed to carry out relief and rescue work 24×7 continuously.”
This strategic deployment is intended to speed up rescue and rehabilitation efforts, provide logistical aid, and reduce risk to life.
Local authorities are, however, being supported with additional personnel and equipment to manage the difficult terrain and deliver aid efficiently.
The move reflects the state’s strong stance on emergency readiness and swift action. This is especially crucial in vulnerable mountainous zones frequently exposed to extreme weather conditions.
