The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Uttarakhand government, headed by Pushkar Singh Dhami, expanded its cabinet on Friday by inducting five legislators as ministers. Gurmit Singh administered the oath of office at a formal ceremony.
The new ministers include Madan Kaushik (Haridwar), Khajan Dass (Dehradun), Pradeep Batra (Roorkee), Ram Singh Kaira (Bhimtal), and Bharat Singh Chaudhary (Rudraprayag). The expansion blends seasoned leaders with emerging figures.
Madan Kaushik, a veteran leader and former state BJP president, brings extensive administrative experience. He has secured repeated electoral victories in Haridwar since 2002.
Khajan Dass, known for principled politics, represents the Scheduled Caste community and has gained recognition for raising governance concerns, including issues related to the smart city project in Dehradun.
Pradeep Batra, a three-time MLA from Roorkee, enters the cabinet for the first time after switching from Congress to the BJP in 2022.
Ram Singh Kaira, elected as an Independent in 2017, joined the BJP in 2021 and now assumes ministerial responsibility.
Bharat Singh Chaudhary also begins his first tenure as minister.
The expansion is viewed as a strategic move ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Political observers suggest it aims to balance regional representation and caste dynamics while strengthening governance.
The reshuffle signals the party’s intent to consolidate its base and enhance administrative effectiveness across the state.
