Uttar Pradesh’s Akhilesh And Mayawati Hesitate To Join Bharat Jodo Yatra

Uttar Pradesh’s top opponents may not take part in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, which is due to reach the politically important state in the first week of January.

The Congress had asked Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leader Jayant Chaudhary to attend the party’s massive Yatra. The Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu to Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to sources, Mr. Yadav may not partake in the yatra, although it is unclear whether he will send a party leader. According to party spokesperson Ghanshyam Tiwari, the Samajwadi Party welcomes the idea of the Bharat Jodo Yatra but is reluctant to muddy it by speculating about a future political collaboration.

RLD head Chaudhary stated that he had previous commitments and will be unable to participate in the Congress march. According to RLD spokesperson Rohit Jakhar, the yatra should not be viewed through a political lens. “In Rajasthan, we already have a government with the Congress. We support the yatra ideologically “He informed me over the phone.

Uttar Pradesh’s Mr. Yadav’s Samajwadi Party and its affiliate RLD appear to have chosen to leave yatra since their participation could stir speculation about a potential political coalition for the 2024 election. The Congress is conscious that if it wants to have an effect in the 2024 elections, it will need the assistance of Mr. Yadav’s party, which is currently the greatest Opposition force in Uttar Pradesh. Mr. Yadav, on the other hand, appears to have taken a conservative view.

SP, BSP And RLD Ties

The RLD, predictably, is not in the hurry to sever ties with its friend over the Congress yatra.
Mayawati, whose party is gaining steam in a state it formerly dominated, has recently been harshly critical of the Congress.

Before the 2022 election, she urged people to vote for her party, claiming that voting for the Congress would simply result in a split in anti-BJP votes. As a result, it is not surprising that she has opted not to participate in the Rahul Gandhi-led march.

Congressman Salman Khurshid stated yesterday that senior opposition leaders have been invited to join the Yatra. The march would reach Uttar Pradesh through Ghaziabad on January 3 before returning to Haryana on its way to Srinagar.
