A tragic accident occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district on Tuesday when a large mound of soil collapsed, burying several women who had gone to collect mud for plastering their homes.
The incident, which took place in Mohanpura village, resulted in the death of four women, while several others sustained injuries
According to local officials, a group of women was gathering soil from a mound when the ground suddenly gave way, causing the soil to collapse and bury those nearby.
Medha Roopam, District Magistrate, Kasganj confirmed that rescue teams pulled nine women from the debris, and four were declared dead upon arrival at the district hospital.
Roopam stated, “Nine women have been brought out, four of them were declared dead at the district hospital. Others are injured. The rescue operation was conducted very well here. We have checked the entire area with the help of JCB and the excavator. There is very little chance of anyone else being trapped there. NHAI’s work was underway here.”
“We will take action against whoever was negligent. It is being said that the women had come to get soil for their houses. We will speak with the women,” she added.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his deep sorrow over the incident. He has directed district officials to ensure that the injured receive immediate medical attention.
The Chief Minister further extended his heartfelt condolences to the grieving families of the victims and wished a swift recovery for those injured.
Additionally, he has directed local authorities to immediately reach the scene and accelerate the ongoing relief operations.
