A significant bureaucratic reshuffle is anticipated in Uttar Pradesh this month, with several district magistrates and police chiefs facing transfers.

This action targets those officials accused of not discharging their duties “honestly” during the recent Lok Sabha elections.

Administrative Overhaul Looms In Uttar Pradesh

A senior BJP functionary stated that several candidates reported officials making deliberate efforts to assist other party candidates and sent complaints to the Election Commission. The report has been forwarded to the chief minister for action.

Additionally, changes are expected within the chief minister’s secretariat.

Additional Chief Secretaries S P Goyal and Devesh Chaturvedi are set to proceed on central deputation.

Three more IAS officers K V Pandian, Anil Dhingra, and Kumar Ravikant Singh have also been empanelled for central postings.

The tenure of UP Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra, who has already received three extensions from the Centre, is due to end on 30 June.

Therefore, a new chief secretary is expected to take over in the coming weeks.

The state cabinet approved the new transfer policy for 2024-25. It includes a salary increase for employees retiring on 30 June and 31 December.

According to this policy, Group A and B officers who have completed three years in the district and seven years in the division are eligible for transfer.

This reshuffle is imminent as Uttar Pradesh prepares for Assembly by-elections in about a dozen seats. It necessitates administrative changes to be made before the model code of conduct comes into force.

According to IANS, a senior official in the CM secretariat stated that the chief minister is currently occupied with preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Varanasi on 18 June. Following this event, he will proceed to finalize the transfer list for IAS and IPS officers.
