In the wake of the recent Unnao bus tragedy that resulted in the loss of 18 lives, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a strong directive to the Transport Department to enforce stringent compliance with road safety regulations.
The Chief Minister’s warning indicates that any unauthorized buses found on the roads in the future will lead to strict action against the responsible officials.
During a high-level meeting at his official residence, CM Adityanath underscored the critical need for comprehensive checks on permits, vehicle fitness, insurance, and the qualifications of drivers operating all passenger and school buses within the state.
In response to this tragedy, the Transport Department has launched a month-long intensive campaign aimed at rooting out unauthorized vehicles.
The Chief Minister emphasized that there will be no leniency in dealing with such buses and insisted on necessary actions against their owners.
The Chief Minister stated that senior officials in the Transport Department will held accountable for any unauthorized buses found operating.
Meanwhile, he stressed the importance of rigorous inspections of fitness certificates, permits, insurance, and driver qualifications for all registered passenger and school buses in the state.
Comprehensive Road Safety Campaign:
Following CM Adityanath’s instructions, the state transport commissioner has initiated a robust month-long campaign focusing on unauthorized vehicles.
This campaign will entail thorough inspections of both passenger buses and school transport.
All Deputy Transport Commissioners (Zones), Regional Transport Officers (Administration/Enforcement), and Assistant Regional Transport Officers (Administration/Enforcement) have been instructed to conduct continuous inspections throughout the month.
Additionally, each Divisional Transport Officer (Enforcement) must personally oversee enforcement actions at designated toll plazas on specified dates, working closely with the region’s Enforcement Officers.
To ensure accountability, the department will deploy one interceptor at each identified location, documenting all actions taken and sharing them in the department’s WhatsApp group for real-time monitoring.
