Uttar Pradesh CM Adityanath Proposes Incorporating Spiritual Teachings In School Assemblies

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has proposed that verses from the Bhagavad Gita or Ramcharitmanas be recited during school assemblies to foster spiritual learning among students. Speaking at a state award distribution ceremony for the basic and secondary education departments on Thursday, Adityanath emphasized the role of spirituality in education.

Addressing the audience at the Yogiraj Baba Gambhirnath auditorium, Adityanath also advised teachers to refrain from behaving like trade union members, stating that such actions undermine the dignity of their profession. “Teachers must maintain the respect and honor of their profession. Acting like trade union members can diminish their own respect,” he remarked.

He praised Radhakrishnan as a distinguished scholar and philosopher.

Minister of State for Basic Education (Independent Charge) Sandeep Singh supported Adityanath’s vision, stating that cultural and educational development is key to a nation’s progress. He highlighted the government’s efforts under Adityanath’s leadership to strengthen and organize the education system.

Adityanath suggested that adding a spiritual dimension to school life could positively impact students. “For instance, a brief address during the morning assembly based on verses from the Bhagavad Gita or Ramcharitmanas could leave a lasting impression on students,” he said.

Emphasizing the traditional reverence for teachers in India, Adityanath quoted scripture and highlighted the role of dedication in acquiring knowledge. “Our scriptures reflect the respect for teachers, with sayings such as ‘Gurur Brahma, Gurur Vishnu’ and ‘Guru Govind Dou Khade’ emphasizing their revered status,” he noted.

He urged teachers to engage in hard work and dedication, stating that mere degrees are insufficient without rigorous practice. Adityanath also directed the education department to utilize award-winning teachers for developing curricula and textbooks for the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).

Aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision under the National Education Policy (NEP), Adityanath encouraged teachers to embrace both traditional and innovative approaches in education. He called for a focus on creating clean, beautiful, and green school environments, and appealed to educators to support the Prime Minister’s goal of making India a developed country by 2047.

“Our journey towards a developed India starts with fulfilling our civic duties. By focusing on our responsibilities, rights will naturally follow,” Adityanath concluded.
