The second batch of 119 illegal immigrants from the United States, including 67 Punjabis, is set to arrive in India on a special flight scheduled to land at Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport on Saturday night.
This deportation marks a continuation of the US government’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
The flight, which will carry 67 immigrants from Punjab, will also include 33 individuals from Haryana, eight from Gujarat, three from Uttar Pradesh, two each from Goa, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, and one each from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
The flight is expected to land at around 10 p.m. on Saturday, and another flight with additional deportees will arrive on February 16.
This deportation is part of an ongoing initiative by the Trump administration aimed at addressing illegal immigration by sending back individuals who either entered the US unlawfully or overstayed their visas.
The first batch of deportees, comprising 104 individuals, arrived in Amritsar on February 5 via a US military plane.
Sources have confirmed that deportations will continue on a bi-weekly basis, with similar flights bringing Indian nationals back from the US in the coming weeks. The Indian government, through diplomatic channels, is working to facilitate the repatriation of its citizens affected by these deportations.
While this process has caused distress for many families, Indian authorities stress that it is part of a broader effort to address illegal immigration. Both the US and India are assisting those affected in returning home and taking steps to enforce immigration laws.
The deportation comes shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with US President Donald Trump, where they discussed the need to combat the “ecosystem” that lures people from ordinary families into illegal immigration.
Speaking at a joint press conference in the White House, Modi stated, “We think that anybody who enters and lives in another country illegally has absolutely no legal right or authority to live in that country.”
However, the decision to land the deported individuals in Amritsar has sparked controversy. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has strongly opposed the move, calling it a “conspiracy by the Union government to defame Punjab and Punjabis.”
He criticized the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for choosing Amritsar, despite the availability of numerous other airports across the country.
