IEW 2025: India’s Energy Vision Shines With Ground-Breaking Innovations

The third edition of India Energy Week (IEW) 2025 concluded successfully, cementing its position as the world’s second-largest energy event. Held from February 11-14, 2025, at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, the event attracted over 70,000 visitors, more than 600 exhibitors, and ten international pavilions.

The event showcased nine dedicated themes, covering key innovations, strategic collaborations, and policy insights shaping the global energy landscape.

Minister Hardeep Puri Highlights Success of IEW 2025

Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Puri, praised the success of the event, noting that IEW 2025 surpassed expectations by covering a comprehensive range of sectors including petroleum, natural gas, green energy, biofuel, and compressed biogas.

He emphasized the remarkable innovations presented at the event and reaffirmed that within just three years, IEW had established itself as a premier global energy platform. Puri also announced that the fourth edition of IEW will be held in Goa in 2026.

Distinctive Features of IEW 2025

Puri highlighted that IEW 2025 stood out from other global energy forums by facilitating actual business transactions, rather than merely serving as a networking platform.

He pointed to practical innovations such as the cost-effective biofuel conversion kit showcased at the HPCL stall, designed for use in two and three-wheelers. He also expressed satisfaction with the convergence of investors, manufacturers, and consumers, particularly highlighted by the display of flex-fuel vehicles.

Progress in India-US Energy Cooperation

In his address, Puri also discussed the significant progress in India-US energy cooperation, especially in the natural gas sector. He outlined India’s goal of increasing natural gas consumption to 15 percent of its energy mix, up from the current 6 percent, and stressed the importance of the US as a key supplier of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to India.

Puri elaborated on the Open Acreage Licensing Program (OALP) Round X, which covers approximately 200,000 square kilometers, and noted the heightened interest due to systematic regulatory reforms.

Policy Reforms and Transparent Governance

The Minister further emphasized the importance of the reforms, particularly about the windfall tax, which aims to create a more predictable and transparent policy environment.

Puri stated that the government’s decision to remove discretionary elements in policy implementation is a step toward ensuring transparency and fairness in the energy sector.

Biofuel and Green Hydrogen: India’s Focus on Sustainability

Puri praised India’s biofuel program, which currently boasts a capacity of 1,700 crore liters for ethanol blending.

He also discussed the country’s ambition to go beyond the 20 percent ethanol blending target and expressed particular excitement about the development of green hydrogen, confirming progress toward the 5 MMT annual production target for 2030. He also highlighted the growing focus on sustainable aviation fuel development.

PM Ujjwala Yojana: Ensuring Clean Cooking for All

A significant highlight of IEW 2025 was the Clean Cooking Ministerial, where Hardeep Puri shared India’s success in providing clean cooking fuel to every household through the flagship PM Ujjwala Scheme.

Launched in May 2016, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) has provided over 10.33 crore free LPG gas connections to women from low-income households. Puri affirmed that other countries could easily replicate India’s model to ensure clean cooking fuel for their citizens.
