UPI Goes Global! German Minister Uses UPI To Purchase Veggies From Roadside, Invaluable Reaction

Volker Wissing, the federal minister for digital and transport in Germany, had the opportunity to personally see the ease of UPI (Unified Payments Interface) payments and was “fascinated” by the encounter. The German Embassy in India praised India’s digital infrastructure on Sunday, referring to it as one of the nation’s success stories and posting about it on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Videos and pictures of Mr. Wissing using UPI to pay for groceries and make payments were published by the German embassy in India.

One of India’s success stories, according to the post’s description, is its digital infrastructure. Everyone may conduct transactions quickly thanks to UPI. It’s used by millions of Indians. Wissing, the federal minister for digital and transportation, was able to personally see the ease of UPI payments and was immediately fascinated.

On August 19, Mr. Wissing was in Bengaluru for the G20 Digital Ministers Meeting.

Social media users responded to the message by thanking Mr. Wissing for contributing to India’s digital economic revolution.

Thank you for taking part in India’s economic digital transformation, a user wrote. Continue to use and share.

Another user said, “It’ll be a blessing for German retailers and shoppers in Germany, who struggle with cash-only transactions.

‘UPI Goes Global! When will Germany join the UPI network, a user inquired?

Notably, India’s quick payment mechanism is called Unified Payments Interface (UPI). It enables users to quickly make payments around-the-clock. It makes use of a Virtual Payment Address (VPA) that the consumer established.

India has so far collaborated on cutting-edge fintech and payment solutions with Sri Lanka, France, the United Arab Emirates, and Singapore. India and France have agreed to deploy the UPI payment system, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s earlier July announcement.
