On the commemoration of Vijay Diwas, the ‘CME Soldierthon Marathon’ was meticulously organized in Pune’s Dapodi, with a profound tribute to the valiant soldiers and martyrs of the Indian Armed Forces. Notable figures such as Upendrra Rai, Chairman, MD, and Editor-in-Chief of Bharat Express News Network, joined the marathon, alongside the esteemed Param Vir Chakra awardee Yogendra Yadav and the distinguished Southern Command Army Commander Lieutenant General AK Singh.
The ‘CME Soldierthon Marathon’ presented an exquisite opportunity for runners to share the track with soldiers, immersing themselves in an enjoyable experience through scenic routes. Participants were not only immersed in the spirit of the marathon but were also bestowed with a bundle of amenities, including a dry-fit T-shirt, a goodie bag, an achievement medal, a race certificate, a nutritious breakfast, and access to medical assistance. The marathon aspires to bridge diverse segments of society, providing them with the chance to walk shoulder to shoulder with soldiers and gain insights into the military lifestyle.
The marathon unfolded in three distinct categories, catering to different age groups: a 5-kilometer run for participants aged 8 and above, a 10-kilometer run for those aged 14 and above, and a challenging 21-kilometer run for participants aged 18 and above.
It is noteworthy that Soldierthon serves as a tribute to the courage and triumph of our armed forces in the 1971 war against Pakistan. In that historic conflict, Indian soldiers compelled nearly 93,000 Pakistani soldiers to surrender. Annually, the nation observes Vijay Diwas on this day to honor and commemorate the resounding victory.
