Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reassured the farming community about the government’s unwavering commitment to their interests, alleviating concerns over inadequate rainfall in various districts of the state.
During a high-level meeting to assess efforts made in light of the insufficient rainfall, the chief minister issued essential instructions to officials, as mentioned in an official statement.
Adityanath acknowledged that, except for a few regions, the rainfall in most districts, similar to the previous year, has been irregular and intermittent. In such a situation, he emphasized the need to take comprehensive care of the farmers’ requirements.
He asserted that farmers need not worry about fluctuating rain levels, assuring them of the government’s unwavering support at every stage. The officials were directed to ensure water availability up to the tail-end of the canals.
Adityanath further urged the irrigation and electricity departments to remain vigilant and prioritize providing water to all farmers. He emphasized the importance of channelling river water to the canals and ensuring it reaches the tail-end. To safeguard the canals, police patrolling was recommended.
The chief minister stressed that assessing the impact of scanty rainfall through a survey is essential, as farmers’ welfare, being the providers of food for the people, is the government’s top priority.
He also emphasized the removal of silt from the reservoirs and encouraged farmers to consider sowing alternative crops in case of inadequate rainfall. Adequate power supply for tube wells and pump canals was also highlighted.

To keep the centre informed, Adityanath directed officers to prepare a fortnightly report on deficient rainfall. Additionally, private tube well operators were encouraged to engage in rainwater harvesting.
Officials informed the chief minister that the state received 281.2 mm of rainfall from the southwest monsoon, accounting for 84.3 per cent of the normal rainfall this year.
During the meeting, it was reported that 86.07 per cent of the paddy had been sown in the state, according to the agriculture minister’s update.
