Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh State Assembly’s Budget session, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath urged the opposition to cooperate for a smooth and peaceful session, which will likely run until 5 March.
“It is not only the responsibility of the government but also the responsibility of the opposition to run the session smoothly. The standards that the double-engine BJP government has set in the last about 8 years for the development of UP are unprecedented. The speech and discussions inside the House offer a glimpse of it. Naturally, the frustrated and disappointed opposition tries to run away from discussing these issues and tries to create obstacles in the proceedings of the House. If the opposition helps in taking forward the meaningful discussion, then I guess that this can be a very good session,” CM Yogi Adityanath stated.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister further asserted that only a few instances in the state’s history have seen a session scheduled for such an extended period.
“The session will start with Governor’s speech. The budget for the whole year will passed during this session. Various other issues related to people’s welfare and development are also discussed during this session. From tomorrow there will be discussion on Governor’s speech. On 20 February 2025, the Uttar Pradesh state budget for the year 2025-26 will presented in the Vidhan Sabha. The session will start today and go on till 5 March,” UP CM further noted.
Opposition Protests Against Maha Kumbh Stampede
On the first day of the budget session, Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders staged a protest in front of the Uttar Pradesh State Assembly, criticizing the government over the Maha Kumbh stampede deaths.
SP leader Ashutosh Sinha condemned the government and symbolically received the ‘ashes’ of its ethics.
“The Uttar Pradesh government organized the Maha Kumbh, but there was so much mismanagement that many people lost their lives and the government is not even releasing the number of deaths, they give numbers everyday on how many people bathed but can’t give this,” Sinha said.
Enhanced Security For Budget Session
Authorities have heightened security around the Uttar Pradesh State Assembly in anticipation of the budget session.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Central Lucknow, Manisha Singh, confirmed, “The budget session is starting from today, and keeping this in mind, we have made full security arrangements in the outer cordon. We have divided the areas around the assembly into six sectors. In every sector, there is a gazetted officer, civil police in plain clothes. CCTV cameras have also been installed, monitoring is being done. There are QRT teams.”
She added that all personnel must act immediately upon identifying any suspicious individual or object and promptly notify senior officials.
Earlier, on Tuesday, UP DGP Prashant Kumar, accompanied by other officials, assessed the security measures for the assembly premises and provided essential directives in preparation for the upcoming budget session.
