Union Minister Kiren Rijiju Highlights Urdu’s Indian Roots At Bharat Express Conclave

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju highlighted the cultural and expressive importance of Urdu while addressing Bharat Express’s Urdu conclave, ‘Bazm-e-Sahafat’.

Rijiju said Urdu should not be associated exclusively with any particular religion or country, describing it instead as a language rooted in India’s linguistic and cultural heritage.

He said learning Urdu can broaden a person’s intellectual outlook and urged people to make the language accessible to a wider section of society.

Rijiju highlighted Urdu’s ability to convey emotions and thoughts with depth and elegance.

He also pointed to the language’s distinctive style, noting that its pronunciation, delivery and the manner in which speakers communicate give Urdu a character of its own.

Connecting Urdu with Young Indians

The Union Minister stressed the importance of bringing younger generations closer to Urdu to support its continued growth.

He observed that young people spend significant time on social media and suggested that efforts to promote the language should reach them through platforms and spaces they regularly use.

Rijiju also described Urdu as a language that has expanded beyond regional boundaries and acquired an international presence.

Held under the leadership of Upendrra Rai, CMD and Editor-in-Chief of Bharat Express News Network, the conclave seeks to place Urdu journalism within the wider national discourse.

During the inaugural session, CMD Upendrra Rai addressed the gathering as the chief speaker and underlined the importance of fair and responsible journalism in strengthening democratic institutions.

The programme began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and the opening session, followed by discussions on themes including ‘The Role of Urdu Journalism in Nation-Building’ and ‘Urdu in Political Dialogue’.

Members of Parliament, editors and intellectuals from different parts of the country are taking part in the sessions and discussing the contribution of Urdu journalism to public discourse and national life.
