Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that security forces and the government are close to fulfilling their resolve of eliminating Left Wing Extremism from the country before March 31, 2026.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the Bastar Olympics-2025 in Jagdalpur, HM Shah said that by the time the Bastar Olympics-2026 is held in November–December next year, Red terror would be completely eradicated from the country, including Chhattisgarh.
“A Maoist-free Bastar will be progressing forward,” he said, flanked by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma.
Target To End Maoism By 2026
The Union Home Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has taken a firm resolve to make Bastar and the entire country free from Maoism.
He said the effort should not stop with security gains alone, adding that the Bastar division — comprising the seven districts of Kanker, Kondagaon, Bastar, Sukma, Bijapur, Narayanpur and Dantewada — must be transformed into the most developed tribal division in the country by December 2030.
Amit Shah said the government is committed to ensuring that every resident of Bastar receives basic facilities, including housing, electricity, toilets, tap water, LPG connections, 5 kg of food grains and free medical treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh.
He reiterated that it is the government’s resolve to make Bastar the most developed tribal division in the country within the next five years.
Development Roadmap For Bastar
The Union Home Minister said that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the central government and the Chhattisgarh government led by Chief Minister Sai would work together to build a developed Bastar.
He outlined plans to connect every village in Bastar with roads, ensure electricity supply, provide banking facilities within a five-kilometre radius and establish a strong network of health centres across the region.
Home Minister Shah said cooperative-based units would be set up for the processing of forest produce in Chhattisgarh. He added that all seven districts of Bastar would be developed into leading milk-producing districts among tribal regions, boosting incomes through dairying.
The Home Minister said new industries would be established in Bastar, along with improved facilities for higher education, the best sports complex in the country and state-of-the-art hospitals. He also announced that a special scheme would be launched to address malnutrition.
HM Shah said the government would introduce an attractive rehabilitation policy for surrendered Maoists and those injured due to Maoist violence.
Referring to the Bastar Olympics-2025, he said the event featured seven teams representing the seven districts, along with one team comprising surrendered Maoists.
He said it was heartening to see more than 700 surrendered Maoists participate in the games.
He added that youths who were once misled by Maoist ideology and had their lives disrupted, including more than 700 who laid down arms and joined the mainstream, have now taken the path of sports.
