Union Budget: Flood-Hit States To Receive Financial Assistance

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced significant financial aid for states affected by floods in her Union Budget presentation today. The Himalayan states of Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Uttarakhand, as well as Assam, will receive financial assistance to support flood relief and management efforts.

The Finance Minister also acknowledged Bihar’s frequent struggles with flooding and announced plans to progress with flood control structures in Nepal, which will provide relief to the state. The estimated cost of this project is Rs 11,500 crore.

Assam, which faces annual flooding, will receive assistance for flood management and related projects. Himachal Pradesh, which suffered extensive losses due to floods in 2023, will receive support for reconstruction through multilateral assistance. Uttarakhand, which experienced significant damage from landslides and cloudbursts, will also receive necessary assistance.

This financial aid aims to support the affected states in their recovery efforts and enhance their resilience against future natural disasters.
