Mother of Indian student who was killed while delivering pizza commits suicide; both cremated in Punjab
Gurvinder Nath, a 24-year-old Indian student who was critically injured in a brutal carjacking in Canada, passed away. On July 9, according to Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBS), Nath, 24, was the victim of a severe assault just after two in the morning near Creditview Road and Britannia Road West.
Narinder Devi, 50, committed suicide on Thursday after learning of the death of her son. Gurvinder’s remains arrived in his hometown late on Friday night, and the mother and son were both cremated on July 29.

Vidya Devi, 75, the grandmother of Gurvinder Nath, said that she attempted electrocution after learning of his son’s passing. The oldest son of Narinder Devi and Gurvinder Nath, Kamal assumed that his mother had ingested some pesticide, according to the report.
Vidya Devi continued, “The following morning, Thursday, she was not home. As usual, we believed she had visited the temple. But she took some time to show up again. But she didn’t return for some time. My eldest grandson, Kamal, found her lying on the street just outside the house.”

Candlelight memorial for Gurvinder Nath was conducted by the community.
According to Canadian media sources, about 200 people gathered at a candlelight memorial in Mississauga last week when Nath passed away following the catastrophic wounds received during a brutal carjacking in Canada.
In accordance with the Police’s statement, As previously stated, the victim, a food delivery driver, was employed in the City of Mississauga’s Britannia Road and Credit view Road neighborhood around 2:10 am on July 9, 2023. When the victim arrived at the delivery address, he was met by unidentified individuals who tried to steal his car. This led to a physical altercation.
The victim was left at the side of the road with injuries that are life-threatening as the unidentified suspects fled the scene in the victim’s car. Police in Canada said the student’s vehicle was found abandoned in the hours following the attack in the area of Old Creditview and Old Derry roads, less than 5km from the crime scene He was then brought to a hospital and pronounced dead in hospital five days later on July 14. Police said he was working for Pizza at the time.

The body was flown to India on July 27 with the help of the consulate general of India in Toronto.
According to a CBS report, speakers at the vigil held on July 25 in the parking area of the Paramount Fine Foods Centre, located at 5500 Rose Cherry Place, reminded the gathering that Nath came to Canada with his family’s dreams and that they are now grieving the loss of one of their three kids.

The victim’s death was described as a “heartrending loss” by Siddhartha Nath, the Indian consul general in Toronto, who also expressed his condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and the larger community. According to him, the consulate general called his family following his passing, according to CBS. It gave me hope to see how the neighborhood rallied and banded together to help the family during this difficult time, Nath added.
