The number of people killed in a bus accident in Udhampur district has increased to 21, according to Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh on Monday. He further confirmed that at least 61 individuals sustained injuries in the incident.
Taking to X, Jitendra Singh posted, “Further Update Accident Ramnagar- Udhampur: 21 casualties so far and 61 injured. Injured have been shifted to Udhampur Hospital while the one more seriously injured is being airlifted to Government Medical college Jammu. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families. All possible assistance is being provided. My office is in constant touch.”

The accident occurred earlier in the day when a passenger bus travelling from Ramnagar towards Udhampur town overturned.
Officials reported that emergency teams prioritised rescue efforts and medical assistance immediately after the incident.
Local administration representatives, including Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh, said that victims were being treated across multiple facilities, including hospitals in Ramnagar and Udhampur.
Efforts remain focused on stabilising the injured and ensuring adequate medical care.
Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the crash. Initial reports indicate that the vehicle overturned, but further details are awaited pending investigation.
Road accidents in the region’s mountainous districts, including Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Ramban, Reasi, Kishtwar, and Udhampur, are often linked to factors such as excessive speed, overloading, poor road conditions, and negligent driving.
In response, traffic authorities have deployed special enforcement teams to monitor violations and improve road safety in these vulnerable areas.
