Two labourers were killed and five others injured in a terrorist attack on a labour camp in Ganderbal district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday evening. The labourers were working on a tunnel construction project between Gagangier and the Sonamarg tourist resort.
The attack occurred around 8:15 p.m., and the injured were immediately shifted to Srinagar for medical treatment. Security forces, including the Army and police, have cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt to trace the attackers.
Security Forces Launch Search Operation
Following the attack, Army and police teams quickly arrived at the site to secure the area and begin their search. The attack comes amidst an increase in militant activity in the region. Authorities are now working to prevent further incidents, with additional forces deployed in sensitive districts.
Chief Minister Condemns Attack
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah strongly condemned the attack on the unarmed workers. In a post on X, he described the attack as “dastardly and cowardly” and offered condolences to the victims’ families. The attack follows the killing of another non-local worker in Shopian just two days prior.
The surge in militant activity is being countered by deploying over 4,000 commandos and reinforcing security across the region.
