The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a 636-page chargesheet in the case related to the death of Twisha Sharma, naming former judge Giribala Singh and her son, Samarth Singh, as accused.

Both are currently in judicial custody and have sought bail in the High Court.

According to sources, the CBI has invoked charges related to dowry death and demand for dowry under sections 80(2), 85, 108 and 3(5), along with sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Case Background

Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old former model and actress and earlier Miss Pune, married Bhopal-based advocate Samarth Singh in December 2025.

On May 12, she was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area. She was taken to AIIMS Bhopal, where she was declared brought dead.

The post-mortem attributed the death to asphyxia caused by ante-mortem hanging by ligature and noted multiple ante-mortem injuries, including contusions on her arm, finger and head.

Twisha’s family alleged prolonged dowry-related harassment, mental and physical cruelty and pressure linked to her pregnancy, which was discovered around April 2026. They cited WhatsApp chats in which she expressed distress and sought to be taken away from Bhopal.

Police registered an FIR against Samarth and Giribala under provisions relating to dowry death, cruelty and common intention. The FIR invoked provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

The Madhya Pradesh government recommended a CBI probe, while the Supreme Court directed the agency to take over the investigation. The CBI subsequently re-registered the case and arrested both accused.

Investigators conducted a scene reconstruction, forensic examination, and digital analysis.

The accused have maintained that Twisha died by suicide and denied dowry demands. They have disputed certain CBI claims, including those concerning voice samples.

A special CBI court had directed that the chargesheet be filed by August 17.
