Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri told the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs that India did not strike Pakistan’s nuclear infrastructure during Operation Sindoor. Sources said the government stressed the operation remained fully conventional. Pakistan made no nuclear threats during the military standoff.
Tensions rose after the Pahalgam terror attack. India responded with Operation Sindoor, targeting terror camps across the Line of Control. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor chaired the committee that questioned Misri on the mission’s scale and strategy.
The government refused to disclose aircraft losses. It said operational secrecy prevents public disclosure of such details.
Trump’s Claim Dismissed
The panel raised US President Donald Trump’s X post. Trump claimed he helped secure a ceasefire. Sources said India denied any foreign role in the decision. Misri told the committee Trump acted alone and did not consult India. “He simply wanted to step into the spotlight,” he said.
The panel asked about a statement by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Some viewed it as conflicting with India’s military stance. Misri clarified Jaishankar spoke only about the first phase of Operation Sindoor. India hit nine terror camps on the night of May 6–7. Misri said Pakistan was informed after the strikes. He blamed critics for twisting the minister’s words.
Panel Supports Misri
The committee condemned personal attacks on Misri and his family. It passed a unanimous resolution backing his conduct. Members praised his calm handling of a sensitive situation.
Misri spoke openly about India-Pakistan ties and said relations have stayed poor since 1947 and will likely remain that way. He also commented on Turkey’s response. He said India and Turkey have never had strong ties.
Misri said India and Pakistan kept DGMO-level military communication open. These talks helped prevent further conflict and brought stability after the strikes.
