The Trinamool has often targeted the BJP as an “anti-Bengal” party, especially after it expanded its base in West Bengal after the 2019 elections.

The Trinamool has launched a fresh onslaught against the BJP, branding them as “outsiders” in a renewed campaign leading up to the national elections. They accused BJP leaders of resorting to derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool’s second-in-command, aimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, framing the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections as a battle between “Bengalis vs outsiders.”

“Once, thieves used to end up in jail, now they find refuge in the BJP, thanks to Modi’s assurance. On one side stands a woman who still resides in a humble abode under a tin roof and wears simple footwear. Who does Bengal choose? Modi or Didi? A native of Bengal or outsiders?” he addressed a massive rally in Kolkata.

Ms. Banerjee, affectionately known as Didi among her supporters and in political circles, has been the focus of the Trinamool’s campaign.

The Trinamool has frequently criticized the BJP as being “anti-Bengal,” particularly after the party’s growth in West Bengal following the 2019 elections.

In the previous Lok Sabha polls, the BJP secured 18 out of 42 seats in Bengal, its highest tally in the eastern state. In the 2021 assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the principal opposition with 77 seats, displacing the CPM and the Congress.

Today, the Trinamool launched the ‘Jonogoner Gorjon Bangla Birodhider Bisorjon’ campaign, meaning ‘people demand the ouster of anti-Bengal forces,’ highlighting what they perceive as the BJP’s “anti-Bengal traits.”

“They have consistently demonstrated an anti-Bengal stance, depriving the people of Bengal of necessities such as food, clothing, shelter, and misusing power to silence Bengal’s voice,” they stated in an online post.

The party accused the BJP-led central government of conspiring against Bengal, claiming that “anti-Bengal traits are evident in every action of the BJP.”

“The past decade has seen a relentless effort by these outsiders to tarnish the image of the state and its people through fabricated and often violent conspiracies,” the Trinamool asserted.

Despite facing derogatory remarks from BJP leaders, Ms. Banerjee continues to fight undeterred, and the people are determined to defeat them. “BJP leaders continuously mock, insult, and deride Mamata Banerjee, the sole female Chief Minister of the country. Nevertheless, she perseveres in her fight for the people,” the party declared.
