The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is grappling with controversy following a shocking incident where Tejemul, also known as JCB, allegedly participated in the public assault of a woman at a Kangaroo Court in North Dinajpur district.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, particularly from political opponents.

BJP National President J P Nadda launched a scathing attack on the ruling TMC, accusing it of condoning the assault.

In a strongly worded statement on social media, Nadda criticized TMC MLAs for allegedly justifying the incident, declaring, “Didi’s West Bengal is UNSAFE for women,” referencing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Reacting swiftly to the BJP’s accusations, Trinamool Congress legislator Hamidul Rahman from Chopra attempted damage control, distancing himself and the party from the incident.

“I accept that what has happened was totally unfortunate,” Rahman stated.

“While mediation meetings commonly occur in certain caste-related disputes, neither my party nor I endorse such acts. The opposition’s portrayal of my stance lacks basis,” he further added.

The accused, JCB, was apprehended by authorities on Sunday evening and is likely to appear before a district court on Monday afternoon for legal proceedings.

Dr. Santanu Sen, former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member, defended the state government’s response, emphasizing a “zero tolerance” policy toward such offenses.

Sen stated, “The swift arrest and legal actions against the accused demonstrate the government’s commitment to justice.”

He further added, “Contrary to BJP-ruled states, West Bengal prioritizes accountability irrespective of political affiliations.”

The incident has reignited tensions between political factions in the state, highlighting concerns over law and order and women’s safety.
