National Space Day
National Space Day, first declared by Prime Minister Modi in 2024, observed annually on 23 August to commemorate the success of Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander and Pragyan rover, which placed India among the leading nations in space exploration.
To mark this year’s observance, NCERT has launched a new educational module titled ‘India – A Rising Space Power’, to be introduced in schools across Uttar Pradesh.
The curriculum charts India’s space journey from early achievements to landmark missions such as Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan, and the forthcoming Gaganyaan.
Digital platforms, including DIKSHA, NISHTHA and the ‘India on the Moon’ portal, are being used to share space-related learning resources as part of the celebrations.
The theme for National Space Day 2025, ‘Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan: Ancient Wisdom to Infinite Possibilities’, highlights the connection between India’s historic contributions to astronomy and its modern-day strides in space technology, underscoring a continuum of knowledge and innovation.
