Today, a special program will be held at the Press Club of India in Delhi to commemorate the sixth death anniversary of renowned poet, lyricist, and writer Gopal Das ‘Neeraj’. The event, starting at 6:30 pm, is being organized by the Gopaldas Trust, Bharat Express, Hindi Academy, and Mahakavi Gopaldas Neeraj Foundation Trust.
This year also marks the birth centenary of Gopaldas Neeraj. The program will be presided over by Padmashree Surendra Sharma, with Sports/Cooperation Minister Vishwas Sarang as the chief guest and ADGP Faiyaz Farooqui as a special guest.
Noted, lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar will be honored with the ‘Mahakavi Neeraj Samman-2024’ award for his contributions to Indian cinema. The event will also be graced by prominent Bollywood personalities, including Annu Kapoor, Boney Kapoor, and Rumi Jaffery.
Gopal Das ‘Neeraj’ was a celebrated poet and lyricist, known for his iconic songs in Hindi cinema, such as ‘Likhe jo khat tujhe’ and ‘Rangeela re tere rang mein’. He was awarded the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for his outstanding contributions to literature and cinema.
The program aims to pay tribute to Neeraj’s legacy and celebrate his life and works. CMD Upendra Rai, patron of the Gopaldas Trust, has been instrumental in organizing this event and previous programs to honor Neeraj’s memory.
