Transformative Journey: How a Trip to India Altered Cynthia’s Mindset Forever

Teacher Cynthia Changau, aged 39, with roots in Manus and East Sepik, embraced a new chapter in her life driven by a fervent desire to keep pace with the demands of the technology era. With 18 years of teaching experience under her belt and a family of five to support, Cynthia embarked on a new venture into the world of entrepreneurship.

Her journey began unexpectedly during a training session she conducted on online shopping. Encountering someone who recognized her potential, Cynthia was advised to apply for the Indian Technical and Corporation program, offering a three-week course in entrepreneurship. Intrigued by the opportunity, she wasted no time in securing her passport and submitting her application. Two weeks later, she received the news of her acceptance.

The program, funded entirely by the Indian government, covered all expenses from travel to accommodation, leaving participants like Cynthia free to focus on learning. She found herself among 28 individuals from diverse backgrounds, the sole representative from Papua New Guinea, at the training in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Returning home brimming with newfound knowledge and inspiration, Cynthia is eager to share her experiences and insights with others interested in entrepreneurship. Through her Facebook page, “Moin Online Trader,” she extends an invitation to join her in exploring the world of entrepreneurship, emphasizing that the program runs monthly and encourages all to seize the opportunity it presents.

Cynthia Changau on PM Modi

“PM Modi told the people of India that if they keep cocoa and process it in the country, they will create jobs for their people. His speech motivated and inspired me, and I think everyone should have that kind of thinking.”

Despite her initial reluctance to travel abroad, Cynthia’s journey to India proved transformative. She recalls being deeply moved by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message, urging citizens to dream big and strive to realize those dreams. His emphasis on adding value by processing raw materials resonated deeply with her, fueling her commitment to entrepreneurship and innovation.

As Cynthia continues her teaching career at Bubia Lutheran Primary School in Lae, she remains dedicated to empowering others with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the digital age. Her side-hustle, initiated in 2012, serves as a testament to her passion for helping others navigate the complexities of online shopping and harnessing the power of e-commerce.

In Cynthia’s eyes, entrepreneurship is not confined to a specific field but rather a mindset characterized by innovation, dedication, and a commitment to adding value to others’ lives. Through her example and encouragement, she hopes to inspire others to embrace their entrepreneurial spirit and pursue their dreams with determination and resilience.
