A shocking discovery was made on Friday in the Rangpuri village of Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area, where five members of a family were found dead in their flat, according to police.
The victims have been identified as Hiralal, a 48-year-old carpenter, and his four daughters – Neetu (18), Nishi (15), Neeru (10), and Nidhi (8). The mother had passed away previously.
Police were alerted by neighbors who reported a foul smell emanating from the flat. Upon investigation, officers found the bodies of Hiralal and his daughters in separate rooms.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohit Meena, preliminary findings suggest the family died by suicide. No injury marks were found on the bodies; however, packets of Celphos poison, glasses, and a spoon containing a suspicious liquid were discovered.
Hiralal had worked at the Indian Spinal Injury Centre for 28 years but hadn’t attended work since January. Two of his daughters, Neeru and Nidhi, were differently abled.
Relatives of the deceased stated that Hiralal had become withdrawn after his wife’s passing and was deeply invested in his daughters’ medical treatment.
An investigation is ongoing, with proceedings initiated under Section 194 of the BNSS. A medical board has been constituted for the post-mortem examination.
The police are exploring all angles, including the potential impact of the daughters’ disabilities on Hiralal’s mental state.
Moreover, this tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the need for mental health support and resources for families coping with adversity.
