Five members of a family, including a woman constable, were found dead in Bhagalpur district on Tuesday, according to local officials. The bodies were discovered in police quarters, including those of Neetu Kumari, a constable, her husband Pankaj Kumar, their two children, and Pankaj’s mother.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Vivekanand of the Bhagalpur range indicated that the deaths appear to be connected to a family dispute. Preliminary investigations suggest that the incident, which likely occurred on Monday night, involves a murder-suicide. The police were alerted to the situation on Tuesday morning.

A suicide note believed to have been written by Pankaj Kumar was found at the scene. Pankaj Kumar was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan, and initial findings suggest he may have killed his wife Neetu Kumari, their two children, and his mother before taking his own life.

Neetu Kumari, who had been a constable since 2015, lived with her family in the police quarters. The couple, who had a love marriage, had recently faced marital issues. DIG Vivekanand noted that Pankaj Kumar’s suspicions of an extramarital affair involving Neetu Kumari had led to frequent arguments, including one on the evening before the incident. Despite these issues, Neetu Kumari had not reported the conflicts to the police.

The victims were originally from Buxar district, and their extended family members have been informed of the tragedy. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover more details and determine the exact circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
