Tragedy struck on Friday morning at Gurugram’s Golf Course, resulting in the death of a 27-year-old man riding a superbike. Police officers familiar with the case stated that the man, identified as Rituj Beniwal, lost control of his black Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10 around 6:10 am, crashing into a divider and a street light. The impact of the crash was so severe that Beniwal’s body was severed in half, and his superbike was completely destroyed. Initial investigations suggest that Beniwal was riding at a speed of approximately 130–140 kmph at the time of the accident.
Beniwal, a resident of Sushant Lok 1 in Sector 43, had completed his BTech and MTech from IIT-Kanpur and was employed at Gurugram-based Logic Fruit Technologies for the past three years. According to his flatmate Shantam Sharma, Beniwal was an avid motorbike enthusiast who frequently took out his superbike for joyrides on weekends and holidays.
The incident occurred on Good Friday, a holiday, as Beniwal left his flat wearing biking gear and rode to Golf Course Road. Parts of the wrecked motorcycle and the lower portion of Beniwal’s body were found approximately 20-30 meters away from the accident site. The accident occurred about 200 meters away from the entrance to Belvedere Towers.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Mayank Gupta stated that Beniwal was speeding on the main lane of Golf Course Road when he lost control and collided with the divider and a street light pole. The severity of the impact resulted in Beniwal’s immediate death. Preliminary investigations suggest that Beniwal was riding alone and that no other vehicle was involved in the accident.
Virender Sharma, a security officer at a nearby condominium, heard the crash and promptly dispatched a security team to the scene. Unfortunately, Beniwal was already deceased when they arrived. The police control room was notified, and authorities swiftly arrived to remove the body and clear the area.
While Beniwal’s family does not suspect foul play and has not filed a First Information Report (FIR), police are conducting an inquiry based on statements from Beniwal’s father, Ajeet Beniwal.
Captain Bobby Singh Sehgal, head of Riders of Storm Forever, a Gurugram-based motorcycle club, highlighted that most crashes involving superbikes result from speeding. He noted that in other countries, owners of superbikes are issued separate driving licenses, but this practice is not followed in India.
