Torrential Rains Paralyze Tamil Nadu - Train Disruptions, Schools & Colleges Closed
Heavy rains pounded Tamil Nadu, causing widespread disruption in districts like Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Tenkasi. A cyclonic storm looms over the Comorin area, triggering a red alert with the regional meteorological centre predicting continued heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena announced the involvement of the Army, Navy, and Air Force to combat the unprecedented flooding, deploying 84 boats for rescue operations. The deluge has submerged areas in knee-to-waist-deep water, leading to the closure of schools and colleges.
With water entering homes and hospital premises, the situation prompted Chief Minister MK Stalin to seek assistance from the armed forces. Over 7,500 people have been evacuated to 84 relief camps, coordinated by National and State Disaster Response Forces.
Railway operations were severely impacted as tracks submerged, disrupting services. The government initiated a river-linking project, releasing surplus water to manage rising river levels. Four IAS officers were appointed to oversee relief efforts in the affected districts.

Tirunelveli recorded heavy rains, while other districts like Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam reported isolated heavy rainfall. Thiruchendur in Thoothukudi recorded a staggering 606 mm of rainfall.
State BJP chief K Annamalai mobilized party cadres for rescue and rehabilitation work. The State Disaster Management Minister outlined the establishment of 26 camps across affected districts, with hot meals provided to evacuees.

The torrential rainfall led to the cancellation of multiple train services, causing further transportation disruptions. The government is actively managing the crisis, with a focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of affected residents.
