On Monday, Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd reached a key milestone with the delivery of its first Made-in-India, driverless trainset to Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation’s Yellow Line.
The trainset, developed at the company’s metro manufacturing facility in Uttarpara, West Bengal, will likely enhance urban mobility in Bengaluru.
This state-of-the-art, automated train features a stainless steel body and is designed for high performance. It will operate on the 18-kilometer stretch connecting Electronics City to the rest of the city’s metro network.
Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, praised Titagarh Rail Systems during his virtual address at the celebrations.
“As we inaugurate Bengaluru Metro’s new trainset and surpass 1,000 kilometres of operational metro rail, we celebrate a significant milestone in India’s urban mobility journey. With India now ranking third globally in metro rail, we aim to surpass the United States within five years,” he stated.
Additionally, Umesh Chowdhary, Managing Director of Titagarh Rail Systems, highlighted the train’s advanced automation, which enables driverless operation.
He further asserted, “It marks a significant milestone as the first Metro train completely manufactured in India for Bangalore Metro’s Yellow Line and the first stainless steel trainset by Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. It reflects India’s strides in indigenisation and its growing role as a global rail manufacturing hub, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision of a Viksit Bharat.”
Titagarh will supply two more trainsets to the Yellow Line by April and increase production to two trains per month by September 2025.
