On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised that rising public debate on women’s representation reflects the vitality of Indian democracy. He said the government’s push through the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam will open new opportunities for women across the country.
Speaking at the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan’ in New Delhi, the Prime Minister stated, “I am seeing that in the last few days, women have been vocal about this issue. An extensive debate is ongoing in the country. It is the strength of the democracy that new wings are about to be given to all your dreams.”
PM Modi noted that such discussions highlight a positive national mood towards expanding women’s role in governance.
Prime Minister Modi further underlined the historical contribution of women, from the freedom movement to nation-building after Independence.
PM Modi said women who have held top offices have left a strong mark. He further pointed out that women continue to hold key constitutional positions today.
Highlighting grassroots participation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said over 14 lakh women actively engage in local governance institutions, strengthening democracy at the village level. He added that increased involvement of women in decision-making has led to more effective outcomes in sectors such as health, education, water management and nutrition.
Referring to development initiatives, the Prime Minister asserted, “The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam is going to become a major opportunity in the lives of all such women. Now, their journey from the panchayat level to Parliament will become even easier.”
PM Modi also cited several welfare programmes aimed at empowering women. These include:
- Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,
- Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana,
- Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana,
- Mission Indradhanush,
- Ujjwala Yojana and
- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
Calling for collective political will, PM Modi urged lawmakers to support measures that strengthen women’s role in governance.
“We will all come together and take this pledge that women will have their rights and will fully participate in the decision-making process. This is the biggest guarantee of our bright future,” he further noted.
The Prime Minister also appealed for wider outreach. He further asked party workers and representatives to take the message of women’s empowerment to every part of the country through direct engagement and communication platforms.
