Three Killed, Including Two Children, In Car–Bus Collision In Karnataka’s Shivamogga

At least three people, including two children, lost their lives in a tragic road accident at Bharatipura Cross near Thirthahalli in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district on Wednesday, according to the police.

Identified by authorities, the deceased were 15-year-old Rihaan, nine-year-old Rahil, and 76-year-old Fathima, all residents of Shringeri in Chikkamagaluru district.

All the victims were travelling in a car that collided head-on with a Road Transport Corporation (RTC) bus.

Preliminary police reports indicate that the accident occurred when the car and the bus were travelling in opposite directions. The vehicles collided with significant force.

As a result, the car was severely mangled at the site of the accident.

Meanwhile, three other occupants of the car sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Medical officials said their condition remains critical.

Investigations revealed that six people were travelling in the car at the time of the accident.

The passengers had reportedly attended a wedding ceremony in Channagiri, located in Davanagere district, and were returning home when the collision occurred.

The RTC bus involved in the crash was on its way from Mangaluru to Raichur. Although the front portion of the bus suffered damage, no injuries were reported among the bus passengers.

Following the collision, vehicular movement on the road was disrupted for a considerable period as rescue and clearance operations were carried out. Residents assisted the police in managing traffic and removing the damaged vehicles.

The Thirthahalli Police registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Further information is expected as inquiries continue.

Series of Fatal Road Accidents in Karnataka

Recently, Karnataka has witnessed a series of fatal road accidents. Last week, six people were killed in two separate incidents reported from the Chitradurga district. In one such case, four youths aged between 21 and 23 lost their lives after their car collided with a truck near Hindasakatte village in Hiriyur taluk.

Another accident involved a car travelling from Maharashtra to Bengaluru, which hit a truck near Tamatakallu village. Two people were killed, and three others were injured in the collision.

Separately, three members of a family died on the spot in Ballari district last week.

Their car reportedly lost control, struck a roadside barrier, and overturned, once again highlighting the growing concern over road safety in the state.
