India secured the title in emphatic fashion. The team defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final played at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
The win made India the first host nation to lift the T20 World Cup trophy on home soil while also successfully defending their title.
Batting first, India produced a powerful performance to post 255 for 5 in 20 overs. It, however, was the highest team score recorded in this edition of the tournament.
Opener Sanju Samson led the charge with a blistering 89 from 46 deliveries, striking five fours and eight sixes.
Continuing his outstanding form in the tournament, Samson registered his third consecutive half-century.
He shared a strong opening partnership of 98 runs with Abhishek Sharma, who played an explosive knock of 52 off just 21 balls in the final.
Ishan Kishan then maintained the attacking momentum with a quick 54 from 25 balls.
New Zealand briefly slowed India’s scoring when James Neesham picked up three wickets in a single over.
Shivam Dube added the finishing touches with an unbeaten 26 off eight balls, pushing India’s total beyond the 250 mark.
Chasing a daunting target of 256, New Zealand struggled from the outset.
India’s bowlers struck early as Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel dismantled the top order, reducing the visitors to 52 for three inside the powerplay.
Despite resistance from Tim Seifert (52) and Mitchell Santner (43), New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 159 in 19 overs, sealing a comprehensive victory for India.
India’s title win sparked celebrations among cricket fans across the country, with supporters praising the team for delivering a memorable performance on the world stage.
