Claude David, an American citizen seeking asylum in India, failed to get relief from the Apex Court. The Supreme Court of India has rejected an American citizen’s plea. The court advised that David’s country will take care of the issue.
Justice Vikram Nath, smilingly asked if David thought better of India than America. The government lawyer said David’s visa ends on December 9, 2024. The lawyer, advising about the way to stay in India, said that he should go back and then return to India.
The court also inquired whether Claude David faces any prosecution in India.
Notably, the petitioner Claude David had sought permission to stay in India. According to the petitioner, he has found an alternative to petroleum and he does not want to go back to America now, because he fears that if he goes to America, he will be persecuted there.
The bench of Justice Arvind Kumar and Justice Sandeep Mehta announced the verdict on the issue. The Court said that the petitioner should have gone to the High Court first. Believing his matter of national importance, David reached the Supreme Court on the advice of lawyers.
David claims to follow spiritual guru Shri Mata Anandmayi.
The court also observed that if it starts hearing matters like these under Article 32, there would be a flood of petitions, as Claude had filed his petition under Article 32.
David informed the court that he applied to the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs but received no response. Currently, he resides in Thiruvananthapuram.
