Birati Railway Station, North 24 Parganas District, West Bengal witnessed a tense scene today when passengers on a local train bound for Sealdah apprehended a woman with a child hidden in her bag.
The incident, which occurred under the jurisdiction of the Bangaon Division, sparked allegations of kidnapping among residents and commuters.
According to eyewitnesses, passengers traveling in the women’s compartment of the train from Dattapukur to Sealdah noticed something amiss when they observed a child hidden inside a woman’s bag.
Their suspicions heightened as the woman, whose demeanor appeared suspicious to them, avoided responding to their inquiries.
Upon reaching Birati Station, the situation intensified when the woman allegedly attempted to flee, leaving the child behind.
Alert passengers quickly restrained her and alerted Railway police, who swiftly intervened and took both the woman and the child into custody.
In response to the incident, local residents and bystanders gathered at the station, demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.
Some individuals even resorted to blocking the railway tracks briefly, leading to a chaotic scene.
However, the authorities managed to calm the situation with prompt intervention and restored normalcy shortly thereafter.
Police officials have initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the presence of the child in the woman’s possession.
As of now, no formal charges have been filed, and further details are awaited pending the outcome of the investigation.
The incident has raised concerns among passengers about safety during travel, prompting calls for heightened vigilance and security measures on local trains in the region.
