Ten Indian Army soldiers were killed and 10 others injured when their vehicle lost control and fell into a gorge in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The accident took place at Khanni Top along the Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate road while the personnel were en route to a high-altitude post.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha confirmed the fatalities and extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
“We will always remember the outstanding service and supreme sacrifice of our brave soldiers,” he said, adding that the nation stands united with the families.
Authorities immediately airlifted the ten injured soldiers to the hospital, directing senior officials to provide the best possible treatment.
The army and local police launched a joint rescue operation without delay. They found four soldiers dead at the scene and rescued nine others with injuries.
They airlifted three critically injured personnel to Udhampur Military Hospital for specialised care.
Eyewitnesses reported a chaotic scene as the vehicle plunged into the gorge, with rescue teams working under difficult conditions.
The incident follows the recent deaths of two army porters near the Line of Control in Gulmarg.
These accidents highlight the risks faced by personnel in high-altitude, treacherous terrain.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause, including road conditions, vehicle malfunction, or human error.
The Doda tragedy underscores the bravery and vulnerability of Indian Army personnel and renews calls for stricter safety protocols and prompt medical care in such postings.
