Hyderabad, Sep 2: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare the recent heavy rains and floods in the state as a national calamity. He also requested the Prime Minister to personally visit the flood-affected areas to assess the damage.
CM Announces Compensation and Relief Measures
During a review meeting with state ministers and officials, Revanth Reddy announced an increase in compensation for flood victims. The compensation for families of the deceased will rise from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. He also raised the compensation for loss of cattle from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 and for loss of goat/sheep from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000. The Chief Minister directed the release of Rs 5 crore each to the collectors of Khammam, Mahabubabad, Suryapet, and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts for immediate relief efforts.
Government Prepares for Further Rain
With the meteorological department forecasting more heavy rain in Adilabad, Nizamabad, and Nirmal districts, the Chief Minister instructed officials to alert district collectors and concerned departments. He ordered the evacuation of people from low-lying areas to relief camps. Control rooms will be set up in collectorates for continuous monitoring, and weather bulletins will be issued every three hours. Revanth Reddy also proposed training one-third of the state’s police personnel in NDRF-style disaster response to improve the speed of relief operations.
