Survival Of 1.25 Crore Saplings Is Key To Green Lok Sabha Campaign, Says Amit Shah

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has said that the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha’s ambitious Green Lok Sabha campaign has entered its most important phase, stressing that planting 1.25 crore saplings is only the beginning and that ensuring their survival is now the real challenge.

Speaking during a review meeting of coordinators of the ‘Gandhinagar Lok Sabha – Green Lok Sabha’ campaign in Ahmedabad, Shah urged workers and volunteers to focus on nurturing every sapling into a mature tree.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Ahmedabad Mayor Hitesh Barot, elected representatives and BJP office-bearers from the Gandhinagar parliamentary constituency attended the meeting.

The review followed the large-scale plantation drive inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.

Organisers said the campaign, aimed at making the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency greener, earned recognition in the Guinness World Records after successfully planting 1.25 crore saplings.

Expressing gratitude to party workers, organisations and citizens, Shah praised their collective efforts in taking the campaign to every household and achieving the plantation target. He stressed that the campaign’s success now depends on the survival of the 1.25 crore saplings.

Shah urged workers to nurture them into mature trees that provide shade, cleaner air and help combat rising temperatures. He called for proper monitoring and maintenance, asking campaign workers to treat tree care as a social duty rather than a political programme.

Citing the Matsya Purana, Shah said planting and protecting trees is a virtuous act that helps tackle environmental challenges.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel urged volunteers to care for the saplings with full commitment, saying protecting trees is essential for the environment and future generations.
