The Supreme Court will review former RG Kar Medical College Principal Sandip Ghosh’s petition on September 6. Ghosh, arrested on corruption charges in connection with the RG Kar Medical College case in Kolkata, argues that the Kolkata High Court did not consider his side of the story before transferring the case to the CBI. He also seeks the removal of a comment made by the High Court regarding a rape incident at the hospital.
A bench consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Mishra will hear the petition. Ghosh claims that the High Court’s decision to move the case to the CBI was made without hearing his defense. The Kolkata High Court had transferred the case from the SIT to the CBI on August 23, following allegations of financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital.
Details of the Case and Allegations Against Sandip Ghosh
The CBI recently arrested three individuals, including Ghosh, in relation to the case. Sandip Ghosh served as the Principal of RG Kar Medical College from February 2021 to September 2023. Despite serious allegations, he was transferred from RG Kar in October 2023 but was reinstated to his position within a month for unspecified reasons.
Ghosh continued to work at the hospital until the case involving the death of a female trainee doctor came to light. His petition challenges the handling of his case and seeks redress from the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court’s upcoming decision will address Ghosh’s concerns about procedural fairness and judicial comments.
