The Supreme Court has declined to entertain a new Public Interest Litigation (PIL) concerning the controversial use of bulldozers in demolition actions. The court stated that it has completed the hearing on this matter and is now poised to make a decision. A bench comprising Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra informed the petitioner that they could either withdraw the petition or face its dismissal. Following this ultimatum, the petitioner chose to withdraw the case.
Details of the Petition
The PIL was filed by Delhi residents Alok Sharma and Priya Mishra, represented by lawyer Narendra Mishra. The petition sought compensation for individuals who suffered losses due to what they described as wrongful bulldozer actions. Additionally, it called for transparency regarding the officials involved in these actions and the identities of those affected.

The petition named the Central Government, all states, and union territories as parties to the case. It demanded that the Supreme Court direct adherence to established procedures governing bulldozer operations, insisting that such actions should only proceed with the approval of District Judges or Magistrates.
Calls for Accountability
In their plea, the petitioners argued that if wrongful actions occurred, the compensation should be recovered from the responsible officials, who should also face appropriate disciplinary measures. They insisted on a proper assessment of victims’ losses and full compensation for the damages incurred.
Supreme Court’s Stance
Despite these requests, the Supreme Court has imposed a ban on bulldozer actions nationwide and has reserved its decision on whether to issue specific guidelines regarding these operations.
