A PIL was filed before the Supreme Court on Monday seeking cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 examination.
The plea, filed by two members of an organization dedicated to supporting student interests, requests the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the purported ‘malpractices and fraud’ entwined in the NEET examination conducted on 5 May.
It also urges a suspension of counseling procedures pending a thorough investigation into the alleged paper leak.
NEET Exam Paper Leak Shakes Aspirants’ Dreams
The petitioners, driven by the plight of numerous aspirants, argue that the revelation of a NEET exam paper leak has not only shaken the educational ecosystem but has also thwarted the dreams of many deserving students aspiring to pursue careers in medicine.
The plea asserts that the petitioners file this petition to seek justice for the aggrieved students who dedicated their time, money, and energy to prepare for the NEET Exam 2024, only to face an unfair examination environment.
Highlighting purported anomalies, the petition questions the credibility of the examination process, citing instances where students allegedly scored statistically improbable marks.
It particularly flags cases where candidates secured exceptionally high scores, including full marks, raising suspicions of foul play and arbitrary conduct by the authorities.
Notably, the PIL draws attention to the remarkable occurrence where 67 students purportedly scored a perfect 720 out of 720 marks, with eight of them originating from the same examination center.
Such anomalies cast serious doubts on the integrity of the examination administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA), as per the petition.
While the Supreme Court recently declined to stay the declaration of NEET-UG 2024 results, it issued a notice to the NTA and other concerned entities, signaling the court’s cognizance of the gravity of the matter.
The petition underscores the urgency and necessity of a comprehensive investigation into the alleged malpractices surrounding the NEET-UG 2024 examination to uphold the integrity of the medical entrance system and ensure fairness and transparency for all aspirants.
