In a significant development concerning the alleged NEET (UG) paper leak, the Supreme Court of India on Thursday intervened by staying all proceedings related to the matter pending before various High Courts across the country.
The move came during a hearing on transfer petitions filed by the National Testing Agency (NTA), seeking consolidation of the cases at the apex court.

A Vacation Bench chaired by Justice Vikram Nath issued the stay order, effectively halting any further action in the High Courts until the next scheduled hearing.
The Bench, which also included Justice S V N Bhatti, acknowledged concerns raised by NTA regarding multiple petitions alleging irregularities in the conduct of the NEET (UG) examination.
“NTA’s counsel mentioned that High Courts are handling NEET (UG) exam pleas despite our prior notice,” during the proceedings.
As a result, the Supreme Court ordered a stay on all proceedings before the High Courts until the next hearing scheduled for July 8, 2024.
This decision consolidates a batch of transfer petitions and other related pleas, including requests for exam cancellation, which the court will comprehensively address during the upcoming hearing.
Earlier, on 14 June, the Supreme Court had initiated proceedings after NTA sought the transfer of a specific petition from the Delhi High Court.
This move aimed to streamline the legal challenges surrounding the alleged paper leak incident.
The issue of granting grace marks in the NEET (UG) exam was also addressed, with the Supreme Court confirming closure on the matter following NTA’s submission.
The Court had earlier withdrawn compensatory marks awarded to 1,563 candidates due to loss of time during the examination process.
The upcoming hearing on 8 July is to clarify the legal status of the NEET (UG) examination and address concerns raised by petitioners regarding its integrity and fairness.
