The Supreme Court is currently considering a challenge to the Chief Wildlife Warden of Rajasthan’s controversial order to shoot man-eating leopards on sight. The petition claims that authorities have not properly adhered to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) outlined by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), which specifies that killing leopards should be a last resort rather than a primary action.
Villagers in Udaipur district are living in fear due to a string of attacks by man-eating leopards. In the past 12 days alone, these leopards have claimed the lives of eight individuals. In response to the escalating situation, the Rajasthan Forest Department has enlisted expert shooter Nawab Shafat Ali Khan from Hyderabad to help eliminate the threat.

Khan, who has extensive experience in dealing with man-eating animals, has previously hunted many such threats. He is accompanied by 12 other shooters in Udaipur, raising hopes that the situation may soon be resolved.
Despite the efforts of army, police, and forest department teams combing the forests of Udaipur in search of the leopard responsible for the recent fatalities, the animal has not yet been located. The local community remains on high alert as authorities work to address this pressing issue.
