During her debut Lok Sabha election roadshow on Saturday, Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of incarcerated Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, rallied support for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate in East Delhi. Addressing party supporters, Sunita lauded her husband as a “sher” (lion) and asserted that he cannot be broken or made to bow down.
Speaking passionately to the crowd from the sunroof of a vehicle, Sunita criticized the government’s actions, emphasizing that despite no conviction by the courts, Arvind Kejriwal has been forcibly detained for a month. She condemned this as a form of dictatorship, highlighting the need to vote against such tyranny and uphold democracy.
Addressing concerns over Kejriwal’s access to insulin while in custody, Sunita revealed his long-standing battle with diabetes and the necessity of insulin for the past 12 years. Expressing outrage at the denial of insulin in jail, she questioned whether authorities intended to harm her husband and queried the rationale behind such treatment.
Since Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21, Sunita, a retired IRS officer, has served as a crucial communication conduit between her husband, the AAP, and its MLAs. Conducting media briefings to relay Kejriwal’s message to the public, she has emerged as a steadfast advocate for his cause.
In the days ahead, Sunita plans to extend her campaign efforts to support AAP candidates in South Delhi and New Delhi constituencies, as well as in Gujarat, Haryana, and Punjab.
