Sukhbir Badal Urges PM Modi For Special Package And Stronger Flood Relief In Punjab

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release a special package for Punjab.

He also sought additional deputation of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Army personnel, and equipment to strengthen the ongoing Punjab flood relief operations.

The former Punjab Chief Minister raised these demands after completing a 10-day visit to flood-hit districts. He also toured remote villages along the International Border with Pakistan.

Badal Seeks Aid for Farmers and Flood Victims

In his letter to the Prime Minister, Badal outlined the scale of destruction. He said lakhs of acres of farmland remain submerged.

Thousands of houses stand damaged, while power and road infrastructure have suffered heavy losses.

Emphasising the urgent need to rescue farmers, he demanded direct financial support for those who lost crops and dairy animals. He also drew attention to health problems caused by stagnant water and urged the Centre to send medical teams to fill gaps in health services.

Badal stressed that farmers required relief from loan repayments. He called for a complete waiver of farm loans to give them a fresh start.

Criticism of State Government Response

Badal underlined that the need for relief was massive. He alleged that the Punjab government had failed to match the scale of requirements. According to him, serious gaps remain in the ongoing rescue and Punjab flood relief work.

He also pressed for interim compensation to the affected people. In addition, he demanded long-term rehabilitation measures to restore livelihoods and stability in flood-hit areas.

“The relief must be immediate and comprehensive. The Centre should intervene strongly to ensure effective support for Punjab,” Badal said.
