Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday highlighted the growing scope of cooperation between India and Finland. He said the newly elevated strategic partnership in digitalisation and sustainability will generate numerous opportunities for citizens of both nations.
In a message shared on the social platform X, the Prime Minister emphasised that the upgraded bilateral framework will expand collaboration in emerging technologies. He added that the partnership will also reinforce economic connections and innovation-driven cooperation between the two countries.
PM Modi stated that the initiative aims to deepen engagement in advanced technological sectors. He noted that cooperation will increase in fields such as artificial intelligence, modern telecommunications networks, including 5G and 6G, advanced data analytics, and quantum computing.
Prime Minister Modi further explained that the partnership will also extend to clean technologies, renewable energy systems, circular economy projects and sustainable urban development.
During discussions with Finland’s President Alexander Stubb, both leaders agreed to enhance scientific research and innovation partnerships.
Joint research programmes will take place between India’s Department of Science and Technology and Finland’s innovation funding agency Business Finland.
These collaborative projects will focus on renewable energy, smart city infrastructure, hydrogen technologies, electric mobility and waste management solutions.
The cooperation will also explore green technologies, including carbon capture systems and distributed energy resource management.
Both leaders also recognised the significance of greater people-to-people mobility. They reached an agreement on a Migration and Mobility Partnership that will support the movement of professionals, students, entrepreneurs, researchers and academics between the two nations.
The initiative is expected to strengthen links between startup ecosystems in India and Finland. It will also open new pathways for young innovators and technology professionals.
Another major outcome of the talks included renewing an environmental cooperation agreement.
The updated framework will boost collaboration on climate action, sustainable development, clean energy research and long-term environmental solutions.
