Steps being taken to further strengthen state’s cyber security: Rajasthan minister

On Wednesday, Rajasthan Minister Jawahar Singh Bedham announced the state government’s commitment to bolstering cybersecurity measures in the region. Speaking at the inaugural session of the Rajasthan Police Hackathon 1.0, organized as part of the state police’s Cybercrime Awareness Mission at the Rajasthan International Centre, Bedham stressed the need for special efforts to curb the rising cybercrimes in the Mewat region.

As the Minister of State for Home, Bedham acknowledged the positive impact of social media on various facilities but also noted a parallel increase in related crimes. To tackle this challenge, he proposed the formation of cyber expert teams in all districts, led by additional superintendent of police-level officers.

The Director General of Police, Utkal Ranjan Sahoo, expressed the significance of the hackathon as an innovative step towards addressing cybersecurity issues. Sahoo shared that a total of 1,665 participants from educational institutions, industries, research labs, and startups have registered for the two-day hackathon. Approximately 300 teams are set to participate, dedicating 36 hours to solving 12 cybersecurity-related problems.

Winners of the hackathon will receive cash prizes and citations amounting to Rs 20 lakh, and those interested will be offered internship opportunities within the Rajasthan Police.

Sahoo highlighted the broader goals of the Rajasthan Police, focusing on improving law and order in the state, ensuring speedy justice for vulnerable sections, including women, and safeguarding the life and property of the general populace.

DGP Cyber Security Ravi Prakash Mehra underscored the persistent challenge posed by cybercrimes and emphasized the diligent efforts of the police force in preventing such incidents. However, he also stressed the crucial role of public awareness in effectively preventing cybercrimes.
