Statue Of Unity Built Through A Mass Movement; Symbolising India’s Collective Strength: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that the Statue of Unity is not merely a monumental tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel but also a testament to India’s collective spirit.

Addressing the nation on the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, he said that the statue’s creation was the outcome of a mass movement that connected millions across the country.

Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “‘Statue of Unity’ is a tribute to Sardar Patel and what is remarkable is that it was built as a result of a mass movement, where people from across India, particularly India’s villages, felt connected with this iconic statue. Do visit Kevadia and discover its grandness yourself.”

The Prime Minister also shared a post from Modi Archive, which recalled that the idea of the Statue of Unity was first conceived in October 2010, when Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

In October 2010, @narendramodi, then Chief Minister of Gujarat, shared a vision that aimed to bring the nation together. He wanted to honour Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, known as the Iron Man of India, by building the world’s tallest statue,” the post read.

The archive further noted that Modi’s vision went beyond scale and architecture. He said that it aimed to celebrate India’s unity, the strength of its people, and the legacy of a leader who united the country during challenging times.

Sardar Patel’s legacy and India’s progress

Earlier in the day, during the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, PM Modi urged citizens to dedicate themselves to the nation’s progress and the dream of a Viksit Bharat.

He highlighted that after Independence, Sardar Patel united over 550 princely states and turned the impossible into reality, symbolising Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.

The Prime Minister also emphasised the government’s success in reducing internal security threats. He said that before 2014, Maoist violence affected nearly a hundred districts, but the government has reduced that number to 11, with only three districts now seriously impacted.

PM Modi further praised the nationwide unity pledge taken by crores of Indians, describing it as a reaffirmation of the country’s collective resolve to safeguard national integrity and harmony.
